EH&S updated the Site-Specific Bloodborne Pathogen (BBP) Exposure Control Plan template in congruence with Washington state BBP regulations. This update includes an expanded list of personal protective equipment (PPE) and engineering controls, a section on sharps safety, and a personnel training log.
The template can be used by all work groups including facilities and maintenance, laboratories, clinical settings, and other groups with staff that could have potential exposure to bloodborne pathogens or other potentially infectious materials (OPIM).
Principal Investigators and supervisors are required to develop a Site-Specific BBP Exposure Control Plan as a supplement to the UW Core BBP Exposure Control Plan (Appendix A of the UW Biosafety Manual).
The UW Bloodborne Pathogens Program requirements apply to all UW personnel with a reasonably anticipated exposure to human blood, tissues, cell lines and other pathogenic agents that are present in human blood, including personnel assigned to provide emergency first aid as either a primary or secondary duty. Personnel in the program follow procedures in their site-specific Exposure Control Plan, complete initial and annual training, and are offered the Hepatitis B vaccine.
