Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) is asking University building coordinators, facility managers, units and departments to identify and unplug Steelcase LED Shelf Light fixtures (listed below) from building power sources due to the potential for fire and/or overheating.
- Steelcase LSL18 Standard Light
- Steelcase LSL18YA Daisy Chain Starter Light
- Steelcase LSL18YB Daisy Chain Secondary Light
- Associated daisy-chain cords
- Associated power cords
Steelcase LED shelf lights were involved in three separate incidents in two buildings on the Seattle campus between 2022 and 2024.
If you find Steelcase LED Shelf Lights with the model numbers listed above, please do the following:
- Turn off the shelf lights.
- Disconnect the power cord from the electrical wall outlet. Please be sure to keep cords with their associated light fixture.
- Document the location of any of these lights in your building and note if any heat damage is observed.
- Coordinate with your facility manager/building coordinator to report this information to EH&S in the spreadsheet.
Environmental Health & Safety will follow up to arrange for collection of the light fixtures and provide more information as it becomes available.
Refer to the Steelcase LED Shelf Light Fire Safety Alert for more information.
Contact Scott Nelson, Building and Fire Safety Manager, or your building coordinator/facility manager with questions.
