The Shop Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Hazard Assessment Guide identifies hazards to which shop workers may be exposed and specifies PPE to protect against hazards during work operations. When completed, the document and its associated training will satisfy the PPE Hazard Assessment and Certification as required in Washington Administrative Code (WAC) 296-800-160 by the Labor & Industries Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH).
UW shops use the Shop Safety Self-Inspection Checklist (Word) to conduct safety inspections at least annually to identify hazards and follow up actions.
The Shop Safety Plan Template (Word) helps University units and departments address the potential hazards and risks associated with shops and maker spaces and to prevent injuries and incidents from occurring.

University personnel, students and visitors in shops and maker spaces may be exposed to hazardous machinery, physical hazards, hazardous materials or procedures that could result in injury.

Ergonomics is the practice of fitting the job to the individual, which can help prevent work-related musculoskeletal injuries. Examples of musculoskeletal injuries include carpal tunnel syndrome, tendonitis, and low back pain.

UW students or personnel hosting or sponsoring an event at a UW location where food will be served, sold, or given away, may need to apply for a Temporary Food Service Permit from UW Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S).
