The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Washington State Department of Health (WA DOH), and other public health partners are investigating a multi-state outbreak of Salmonella associated with consumption of Italian-style charcuterie meats.
To date, the outbreak has been associated with consumption of:
-
Fratelli Beretta Antipasto Gran Beretta (sold at Costco stores, including in Washington state); and
-
Busseto Charcuterie Sampler (sold at Sam’s Clubs outside of Washington state).
In January 2024, voluntary recalls were issued for both products; retailers have removed these products from sale.
Public health investigators are working to determine if any additional products may be contaminated.
What should consumers do:
-
Check your home inventories for the recalled products. While this investigation is ongoing, do not eat any lot of the Busseto brand Charcuterie Sampler from Sam’s Club or Fratelli Beretta brand Antipasto Gran Beretta from Costco. Safely discard these recalled products or return unopened packages to the retail store for a refund.
-
Wash surfaces and containers that may have touched these recalled products using hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.
-
Consult your healthcare provider if you ate the recalled charcuterie meats and have (or had) symptoms of Salmonella within the following week. In most people, Salmonella symptoms resolve on their own with fluids and rest. Children younger than 5 years, adults 65 years and older, and people with weakened immune systems may experience more severe illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization.
