Understand Training Fees

The Environmental Health & Safety Department (EH&S) offers more than 80 training courses, both online and in person, covering a wide range of health and safety topics. Many of these courses are required by federal and state regulatory agencies and funding agencies based on specific work activities to help ensure workplace, environmental, and research safety and compliance. Most EH&S courses are available at no cost to UW personnel. However, EH&S recharges for certain in-person classes that have associated external vendor fees and/or materials costs.

Open Enrollment Classes

EH&S regularly offers in-person classes with open enrollment. Individuals can register themselves through our Course Catalog. A Worktag must be provided at the time of registration.

Specially Requested Classes

EH&S provides additional in-person classes for departments or units upon request. The requesting unit must provide budget information two weeks prior to the class date, and expenses incurred for space reservation will be added to the class fee. The class fee will be recharged to the department or unit regardless of final attendance. Courses taught by EH&S staff, including Asbestos Awareness Initial, Asbestos Awareness Refresher, and Fire Extinguisher Training Hands-On, are offered at no cost, except for any expenses incurred for space reservation.
