Biological Research Approval
The Biological Use Authorization (BUA) process grants approval for work with biohazards. If your research involves biohazards, it must be reviewed and approved by the Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) and Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) to ensure safe handling of biohazardous material and renewed every three years.
BUA Application Submission Dates
The BUA Application Submission Dates document lists the submission due dates for the Biological Use Authorization (BUA) application.
Submit BUA applications at least four weeks prior to the IBC meeting to ehsbio@uw.edu.
Biosafety Manual
The UW Biosafety Manual provides students, staff, and faculty at UW with information that is necessary to protect them and the surrounding community from possible hazards associated with the use of biohazardous agents and recombinant or synthetic DNA/RNA (recDNA) molecules.
All laboratories and facilities using biohazards should have an electronic or paper copy of the current Biosafety Manual available.
