The University's COVID-19 Face Covering Policy describes the face coverings requirements at the UW in accordance with federal and state workplace safety requirements, and applicable local public health directive(s).

Log of changes:

  • 11/21/23: Revised to align with the updated UW Medicine Face Covering Policy.
  • 7/19/23: Revised to align with the updated UW Medicine Face Covering Policy, which requires mask use in specific higher risk healthcare settings. Face coverings are optional in most other settings and scenarios
  • 10/31/22: Updated links to Washington State Department of Labor & Industries and Washington State Secretary of Health websites
  • 6/15/22: Added "Airlift Northwest facilities and aircraft" under settings were face coverings are required.
  • 6/15/22: Added: "In all other indoor settings, face coverings are recommended when COVID-19 community levels are low and strongly recommended when community levels are medium (for King and/or Pierce counties), particularly for individuals who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccines and boosters..."
